Era uma sexta-feira, dia 19 de outubro de 2007, por volta das 20hs (horário local). Lucky Dube estava deixando seus filhos na casa de familiares quando foi abordado por assaltantes que tentavam roubar seu carro. Ele foi atingido por um tiro, tentou fugir e debilitado pelo ferimento acabou batendo seu carro, falecendo no local.

A morte do Lucky Dube aos 43 anos de idade, com uma carreira de 25 anos de sucesso, chocou a comunidade regueira em todo o mundo.

Nascido na África do Sul, Dube era sem dúvidas um dos principais artistas do país. Sua música embalou milhões em todos os continentes. Seus 22 álbuns gravados foram sucesso de venda no globo todo.

Lucky Dube deixou sua esposa Zanele e seus 7 filhos: Bongi, Nonkululeko, Thokozani, Laura, Siyanda, Philini e Malokuhle, na época com apenas 3 meses.
